The project management tool you have been missing
When I created projectopia.com it was originally supposed to be for an application and not just a blog on project management topics. Since the application is taking shape anyways, I’m planning to start making it a more prominent part of the site. I will be looking for Beta testers later in the year if anyone is interesting.
The application is really geared towards the middle tier of organizations with PMs and portfolios of less than 30 active projects. Since most organizations, regardless of size, have some combination of Excel and Project in their tool kit, I don’t intend to duplicate these functions. Similarly, I don’t intend to compete with Clarity or some of the other enterprise project management applications. The plan is to keep things simple.
So what do most small to medium size organizations need? The plan is to create a simple portal for portfolio management that focuses on project lifecycle tasks – mainly status reporting. Most organizations turn status reporting into an un-management activity that simply creates lots of reading material that senior management really don’t have time to deal with. The goal is information at a glance for management, and simple reporting for project managers. And the main goal for both, is no paper. Everything is web based and real time. It sounds simple enough, but I have yet to see even some of the larger portfolio management suites address these basic needs.
Stay tuned for more details.
